“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” – Benjamin Franklin
Like our ancestors, I love a good story!
Whether it’s written on paper, typed across a computer screen, spoken through faces on the silver screen, blasted in the notes of a melody, or splattered in color on concrete walls.
Stories challenge us. Stories uplift us. Stories connect us.
In every role I assume – business owner, author, illustrator, counselor, consultant – I use the medium of storytelling to empower and inspire humanity, especially underrepresented population groups. A master’s level substance abuse counselor with a background in education, I incorporate my life experiences and anthropological degree to create socially conscious content that’s playful and invigorating for differing ages and situations!
So, I made a decision. I love stories. I love children. Why not write for children?
It has brought me the greatest joy! I aim to create content that will inspire us to question how we approach life, reflect on how we can improve, and expand on what makes us unique!
We learn through connection, interaction, and enthusiasm.
Part of my growth as a writer, illustrator, and person comes from you! If you’d like me to appear as a guest in your classroom, school, library, or conference, send me an email and let’s connect!
A Lil’ Insight About Me:
I love animals, magical stories about flying carpets, enthusiastic high fives, werewolves, and Japanese food.
Among other interpretations, my name – Tanisha – in Hausa (Central African language) means “Born on a Monday.” I was born on a Saturday.
I have an irrational pet peeve – chairs that aren’t pushed in. If chased by zombies, I would stop to push in every chair all the while yelling at everyone else to hurry up.
I need to use a thesaurus. I say “awesome” way too much.
I am unofficially competing for the title of “The Worst Cook in the History of the World.” Preparing burnt food is an underappreciated art form. It’s actually pretty awesome.
