The Orphans
On the planet Nevia, Viyotin, a Cliff-dweller, is the Head of the High Council Administrations, a power position second only to the Nevian gods. His high rank is rare since Cliff-dwellers are the lowest in the caste system. Before he ran the interplanetary UN, Viyotin was a master swordsmith who took care of his siblings, Suus and Mara, after their parents died. His life was simple: make money from his trade and protect his family, especially his brother, Suus.
Suus wants more.
Suus applies to work for the High Council, the Nevian gods. He doesn’t get the job, but Viyotin does. Viyotin doesn’t want the position until he sees her, Maharesh.
The Gods
Maharesh is a Nevian god, a Gerunk. The Gerunk are a powerful clan of creatures who almost conquered the entire galaxy. Before they became the notorious head chopping, dynasty toppling legends they were a small band of nomads bouncing from planet to planet like refugees until they realized their superiority. Brutal, strategic, and cunning they have no equal. Their only weakness lies within. The fate of their race depends upon the upcoming marriage of Maharesh and Nihursu, the fairest of them all.
The Teenager
Years later, the High Council meets to discuss the fate of the planet, Earth. The options are coldly practical: annihilate the entire human race or assassinate one human. Plagued by the death of his mother, thirteen-year-old Duncan McDoogle struggles to deal with an abusive father, a vindictive grandmother, persistent bullies, and failing grades. He’s completely unaware that he is the topic of an intergalactic discussion. Completely unaware that The High Council believes he’s the savior of mankind and must be eliminated.
Seamlessly flowing from the past to the present, Duncan: The Gerunk Saga, is a delicious tale of betrayal, power, and forbidden love that connects an orphaned family, an abused teenager, and a powerful race of creatures feared despite their pact of peace.
The 20th Anniversary
Even though the novel was published in 2014, I wrote the first draft 20 years ago! I can’t believe it! So much has transpired since then! This story, of all the content I’ve created, is special to my heart. 20 years later, I’m rewriting the novel because the story is bursting with potential. It’s time to level up!
In the meantime, please enjoy this version. Because bottom line, it’s a great story!
